Description: Biography. Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o was born in 1938 in Kamiriithu, near Limuru as James Ngugi. His father was a tenant farmer who had four wives and twenty-eight children. Ngũgĩ initially attended a missionary school but then was sent to a Gikuyu school. However, after the State of Emergency in 1952, all schools had to teach in English.
